Clicker Heroes
More games to play
Clicker Heroes is a free browser idle game where you start by clicking on monsters to deal damage, collect gold, and unlock a growing roster of heroes who keep killing while you are away. No download is needed and it runs in any browser, so it is easy to pick up at school or work during a break. The game helped bring idle clickers into the mainstream and still holds up as one of the most complete examples of the genre. Each run has a clear rhythm: push zones, spend gold, return to find your heroes have kept the gold flowing.
What is Clicker Heroes?
Clicker Heroes is an idle clicker RPG set across an endless string of zones, each guarded by monsters and a boss. Your job is to deal enough damage per second to pass the boss and unlock the next zone. Early on most of that damage comes from your own clicks. Over time the heroes you hire take over, and the game shifts from active clicking to managing upgrades and deciding when to ascend for permanent bonuses.
The core loop is short: click to earn gold, spend gold to hire or upgrade heroes, push until progress stalls, then reset with Ascension to multiply future earnings. It is rated 4.5 from more than 3,100 players.
Controls
The entire game is mouse-driven. The table below covers every action you will use.
| Action | How to do it |
|---|---|
| Deal click damage | Left-click the monster |
| Hire or upgrade a hero | Click the hero card in the side panel |
| Buy a hero upgrade | Click the upgrade icon when it appears above a hero card |
| Ascend | Click the Ascension button in the top menu once unlocked |
| Open the shop or settings | Use the top toolbar icons |
Heroes, DPS, and upgrades
Each hero you hire adds a fixed damage per second value to your total output. Most heroes also have a series of upgrades that multiply their individual DPS, and some have unique upgrades that change how their damage works. Leveling a hero to certain milestones (25, 50, 100, etc.) unlocks additional multipliers. The table shows the first few heroes and what makes each one worth upgrading.
| Hero | Role | Notable upgrade |
|---|---|---|
| Cid, the Helpful Adventurer | Click damage booster | Doubles your click damage at key levels |
| Treebeast | First auto-DPS hero | Straightforward multipliers, good early value |
| Ivan, the Dreadful | Mid-game staple | Upgrades scale well into zone 50+ |
| Brittany, Beach Princess | High-cost, high-DPS | Large multiplier unlocks past level 100 |
| The Masked Samurai | Late early-game hero | Unique passive that feeds into total DPS |
Zones, bosses, and treasure chests
Each zone has 10 levels. Levels 1 through 9 are regular monsters that die after enough total damage is applied. Level 10 is a boss with a hard HP check: if you cannot kill it within a time limit, you cannot advance. Bosses are the main gating mechanic and tell you plainly when your DPS is too low to continue.
Treasure chests appear as rare random spawns on normal levels. Clicking one fast enough gives a large gold bonus that can jump-start a round of upgrades. Missing a chest is not fatal but catching one early in a session speeds things up noticeably.
Tips for pushing further zones
- Prioritize hero upgrades over raw hero levels when an upgrade costs less than 10 levels would.
- Do not ignore Cid early. Click damage carries you through the first 30 or 40 zones before hero DPS takes over.
- Ascend as soon as your progress noticeably slows. The Hero Souls you earn multiply all future gold and DPS, so an early ascension pays back faster than grinding through a wall.
- After ascension, rush back to your previous zone quickly by spending Hero Souls on Ancients that boost starting gold or click damage.
- Keep an eye on the boss timer. If you are close but not quite there, a burst of manual clicks can tip the balance without spending gold.
